When asking someone if they like pizza, you will almost always receive a “yes” answer. Pizza is a favorite food, which would explain the different pizza places all over the country. However, pizza is a great homemade dinner. Sometimes it can be hard to come up with different toppings for your pizza, and a great time to experiment is during the summer. You can find great toppings straight from your garden, including green onions, peppers, tomatos, squash. I personally don’t have a garden, but I am the blessed recipient of produce from my neighbor’s gardens. Also, in the summer time, you can get these ingredients fairly inexpensively, because they are grown so abundantly. Other great summer toppings are olives, ham, and canned chicken.
One of my favorite pizzas in the summer time is called “Three-Cheese Pizza”. This pizza doesn’t use a normal pizza sauce. Instead you spread just two tablespoons of vegetable oil over your pizza crust. Then top it with sliced zucchini, chopped tomatos, and diced onions, all grown during the summer months. The three cheeses you then spread over it are mozzarella, cheddar, and parmesan. It is a delicious pizza and perfect for those lazy, hot summer days.
